Does anyone remember why KFC stopped calling itself Kentucky Fried Chicken? I surely don't, but one day we woke up and it was just plain KFC. It looks like something similar has happened with AOL. Apparently there was confusion about whether AOL stood for America Online or American Online. Did you just roll your eyes? So did I. Of all the excuses to change a company's name, this one is just sad.

April 3, 2006 9:07 PMIt's all about globalization. Both companies finally realised that outside this great big place called America, there are even greater, bigger places called "The rest of the world"
"America Online" is a crap name for an ISP trying to break the market in Luxembourgh, and most Americans won't believe this, but there are small tiny towns in Africa that don't know (no, really!) what a Kentucky is, and how it helps in frying chicken.
I make a joke of it, of course, but thats what it's really about. Unfortunately there are very large chunks of America, both people and business, that can't begin to comprehend that there is another world out there, and it's not all terrorists and i-raq
:)
